People like to say that our last few Presidential elections have been the dirtiest ever. I disagree. This election and the couple involving Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams were worse. Maybe more on that to come?
Nearly all my research came from books and videos in my personal collection as well as stories I gathered from other historians. This is one of those topics I could do a semester on! The fact that two of our founders would resort to this level of pettiness is amazing. We see them, fairly, as educated men and leaders. Writings and actions support it. But they were human prone to mistakes and political missteps. See: this episode for example.
